This division of SCS has a multi-faceted approach to strengthening the economic vitality of our residents. We endeavor to help place the job seeker in a position to leverage their skills and abilities for future employment and increased earnings.
Our Employment Readiness classes are made of a two part series.
The first class is — “Resume Writing Worskshop”, for federal/nonfederal participants. The course outlines the application process, developing appropriate federal resume statements, high impact words, writing clear, brief, and complete descriptions of work experience, and identifying opportunities. Students bring their current resume to class and our team works individually with those attending to prepare a federal resume. You should take the first course before signing up for the second class.
The second class offered is “The “Interview” training class. This covers mock interviews from current and retired federal manager’s senior managers to senior level executives, Executive Directors, SES, and State Executives. These managers volunteer when needed and conduct mock panel interviews coupled with feedback to the participant. Although it is tough to convince people to give up their Saturday on an as needed basis, we have been very successful in getting these managers to support our program.
Our SHABACH! Summer Youth Employment Program is partnering with the Prince George’s County Office of Human Resource Management and the Youth@Work program in placing youth in 1000 positions over the summer. Young people between the ages of 15 and 19 years old, who are Prince George’s County residents will have the opportunity to participate in career development, life-skills training and job training sponsored by Prince George’s Community College (PGCC). The goal of SCS is to provide a summer employment opportunity to every eligible, willing and interested young person who enrolls in the program.
